Classic Cocktails & How To Make Them.
A book about cocktails, their history, and how to make them properly at home.
My graduation thesis at ADI, later selected as one of the best works in the school's ten years at their anniversary exhibition.
Every part of it, writing, design, art direction, and the printing process itself, was mine from start to finish.
Didn't get a physical copy? A digital version is up on my Gumroad page, It’s cheaper than print, and available before the next run.
Chapter Concept
I split the book by base spirit, so reading it feels like working your way through a liquor cabinet.
Vodka, gin, whiskey, rum (with a tiki chapter tucked underneath it) and finally tequila.
Each chapter gets its own colour, partly for the fun of it, partly so you can find your way back to a recipe without flipping through the whole thing.
PRINT AND BINDING
This is a physical object I cared about as much as the content inside it. I had it Risograph printed at Kudla Werkstatt in Prague. The recipe text and the surrounding text look deliberately different, so you can scan a page and find what you need without reading all of it. The bare spine binding lets the book lie flat on a bar while you're actually mixing something, practical as much as it is a style choice.
Tone
I wrote it the way I'd talk to someone at the bar, someone who knows the drinks and is happy to talk you through them without playing the role of an authority. A few pages have small handwritten-style notes where I wanted to say something that didn't belong in a recipe, a bit of history, an opinion, a reason I like a certain variation.
